               The START Initiative

The NITC START (Supporting Trust Audit Related to Transfusion) Initiative commenced in October 2014.

It aims to assist individuals and groups within Northern Ireland Trusts to carry out Transfusion related audits using best methodology gained from the experience of the NITC audit programme over the last 10 years.   

Projects assisted in 2014/15 include

Pre-assessment anaemia

Anaemia in endoscopy

Single unit transfusions

Identifying possible reduction in medical transfusion

Appropriateness of two unit transfusions

Overnight transfusions

Donor exposure in neonates
